"I don't want realism. I want magic! Yes, yes, magic."
- A Streetcar Named Desire, 1951
PICTURE THIS: Lights flash as you step onto the red carpet. Your spouse guides you past the paparazzi as many friends greet you. You post for a quick photo opportunity, but then fold yourself into the bustling crowd... wine glass in hand.
Okay, let's be real. It's not Hollywood, but it's not the icy plaza either. In fact, there is not a pullover fleece or snow boot in sight. You have arrived at the 2010 Carlisle Education Foundation Auction and Dinner Dance, which once again, offers a fun night out and a chance to directly impact the educational experience in Carlisle.
The International Golf Resort in Bolton hosts the 2010 CEF auction on Saturday, March 27. The International offers a great menu and its newly decorated banquet hall provides plenty of room for mingling and dancing. Dancing is inevitable when entertainment by the Love Dogs brings the room to a bluesy swell. New this year is an optional overnight package at the International Lodge and Spa. Why not make a weekend out of it?
The Auction is one of the main fundraising efforts put forth by the CEF. For almost 20 years, the CEF has been able to fund new educational initiatives, so that our school community can continue to grow and explore, even in tough budgetary times. Some of the projects that the CEF has funded include classroom AcityBoards, the World Language Program, literacy software, professional development for teachers, and after school STEM courses. The Auction is a unique opportunity to support programs that effect the future direction of the school as well as tools that you child's teacher can use in her or her classroom right now.
The event includes both a silent and a live auction. Through the generosity of local residents and businesses, the Auction offers an interesting variety of items with a wide range of price points. This year is no exception, with handcrafted items from Carlisle artisans, vacations, catered parties, and special events with Carlisle Public School teachers. New this year are items offered through an online-only auction, which allows you to do some pre-party bidding, or to participate in the online auction if you cannot attend the main event.
