Foundation Reaches Out to Carlisle Teachers and Students with 2008 Grants
If you have stopped by any of the classrooms this year, you have most likely seen Carlisle Education Foundation funds at work. The CEF is pleased to report that nearly $64,000 in grants were awarded for the 2007-2008 school year which have been used to purchase a new mobile Mac computer lab and 3 electronic ActivBoards for use in third, fourth and fifth grade classrooms. In addition, CEF has once again funded school participation in Primary Source, a non-profit organization that provides programs in a variety of content areas, curriculum resources, and study tours to teachers throughout New England. These awards would not be possible without the generous support of businesses and individuals in our community who continue to enhance the work of the Foundation each year.
Fifth-grade teachers Jen Reinhard and Mimi Gleason were thrilled to have an ActivBoard installed in their classroom over the summer. Both teachers received intensive training in both how to use and troubleshoot the equipment, and have successfully incorporated the new technology into their curriculum. Students in their classes use the board regularly for presentations, games, research and more. In a recent lesson on the Sieve of Eratosthenes, Ms. Gleason was able to illuminate prime factorization by color-coding with the tap of a stylus. Her students were able to follow along by color-coding their own worksheets the old-fashioned way—with colored pencils!
